You may not realize it, but you depend on your water heater immensely. It is something that is used everyday to help machines function as well as satisfy your needs. It contributes whether you turn on the water to shower, wash your hands, use your washing machine, use your dishwasher, or even when you wash a dirty pan in your sink.
As we sometimes take these heaters for granted, our professional plumbers from Americana Plumbing wanted to explain the importance of a water heater and how it functions.
What Does it Do?
As it says in its name, it heats your water. Just imagine a world without hot water! It is a system that is installed in most homes nowadays as that is the standard. It depends on the time of year, but to do all of your daily tasks and fulfill your needs, you’ll need a water heater.
How Does it Function?
Just like the everyday water you use, the water for your water heater also comes from a pipe as well. This pipe is connected to the heater to transfer the water. As the water arrives cold and cool from the pipes, it starts getting stored at the bottom of the water heater tank. This is the area where the necessary heating units are located. While the water slowly warms in this area, it gets sent to the top of the tank. When it is at the top, an on-demand pipe removes the hot water when needed for use. If not, then the heated water sits in the tank and continues to be heated.
When someone in the household turns on the hot water, it goes through the on-demand pipe and straight to wherever needed.
Does Hot Water Ever Run Out?
After most of your family members have used the shower, you’ll notice that the heated water is not as heated as it was before. The reason for this is your water heater holds a specific amount of water before the heated water runs out. The amount is around 60 gallons. With studies being made, almost 20 gallons is used per shower. So, by the time it is your turn, this water can run out. Water will still flow when you turn the handle on, but it won’t be heated. To have heated water again, it is best to wait a few moments to let your water heater do its job.
Adjustable Temperatures
You may worry about the heater making the water too hot, but that won’t be an issue as all water heaters come with adjustable temperatures! You can lower and raise the temperature to your liking. Sometimes the water may be too hot for your little ones or could also be too low of a temperature for washing dishes. All it takes is a push of a button to change it to your liking!
